Chennai: A team of experts in structural engineering and architecture on Friday inspected the site of a building which collapsed at Porur killing 61 and injuring 27, police said.
The experts inspected the "foundation location" of the collapsed 11-storey building and also surveyed a 11-floor structure adjacent to the collapsed building. The buildings together were originally planned to be "twin residential towers."
The experts have also taken samples of soil in the site.
Senior officials of the State government including those from the Public Works Department were with the experts during the inspection.
Soon after announcing a judicial probe into the building collapse, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced the setting up of a Special Investigation Team to probe the mishap.
Under the supervision of Commissioner of Chennai Police, the SIT comprises experts in engineering and architecture.
The team is headed by a Joint Commissioner of Police.
Police had registered a case and arrested six persons in connection with the June 28 building collapse.
