Chennai:
Foreign currency worth about Rs 7.5 lakh was today seized by customs officials and one person arrested in this connection at the international airport in Chennai.
Officials said when a passenger, Abubacker Siddique, scheduled to fly to Colombo by the 8.50 am Air Lanka flight, was checked, he was found to be in possession of USD 12,500.
He did not have the statutory documentation to prove that the currency being taken out of the country was for bonafide purposes, officials said.
