Agartala:
The Tamil Nadu Police arrested four tribal youth, all accused of gang-rape of a girl in Tripura, who took jobs in a private security agency in Chennai to evade punishment, police said in Agartala on Sunday.
"Four tribal youths gang-raped a minor tribal girl on November 1 at Twaihar Chowng Kami village in (southern Tripura's) Gomati district and then fled," a police spokesman said in Agartala.
He said that on the basis of a complaint filed by the girl's mother, police initiated a probe and arrested one of the attackers, Swapan alias Arpan Jamatia.
During interrogation, Swapan told police that the other attackers were hiding in Chennai's Egmore area.
Tripura Police then sought the help of Chennai police, who arrested the four youth on Friday from Taramani area.
Chennai police also arrested Mangal Debbarma alias Bahar Jamatia alias Malag Debbarma, who provided shelter to the four tribal youth after they raped the girl and escaped.
Mangal, who was accused in another gang-rape in Tripura in October 2011, has been working in a private security agency in Chennai.
A Tripura Police team went to Chennai and after taking permission from the chief metropolitan magistrate in Egmore, brought the four accused back to Tripura.
The arrested tribal youth fled to Chennai via New Delhi soon after the crime and took jobs at a private security agency after getting 10 days' training.
