Chennai: An unidentified man has turned into a hero of sorts in Chennai after a video of him rescuing an elderly woman from a bus stranded in a flooded subway in the city has gone viral.
In the video, captured on a mobile phone on Sunday, the man is seen carrying the woman in his arms as he gets out of the bus, and then wades through knee-deep water towards the other end of the subway.
"I don't know where the man came from. The old woman was helpless. He just lifted her and walked all the way up. It was amazing. I was touched. He had actually rescued few others as well," said Venkat Krishnan, a cameraman, who shot the heroic act and shared it on social media.
Bystanders cheered the man as he carried the woman to safety, Mr Krishnan said.
The incident happened at the Thillaiganga Nagar subway in the city which has seen heavy rain over the last few days, leading to waterlogging in several areas.
