Cyclone Thane: Inter-ministerial team meets state officials
Chennai: An Inter-Ministerial team deputed by the Centre to assess the damage in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry by cyclonic storm 'Thane' today met state officials, headed by Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi.

The 10-member team, led by Lokesh Jha, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, will split up into smaller teams to assess damage in affected districts of Tamil Nadu such as Cuddalore and the neighbouring  Puducherry on Sunday.

The team was given a presentation by different departments on the extent of the damage.

The state government is likely to pitch-in for a relief package with the powerful storm throwing life out of gear in Cuddalore, the worst affected in the December 30 cyclone accounting for 39 of the 46 deaths in the state.

The Central team will be visiting Cuddalore, Villupuram and Puducherry.
