A major fire broke out in Ambedkar Nagar in Chennai last night, which gutted over 600 huts in the area, fire officials said.
"We have almost put out the fire and are taking the situation into control. Some 600 plus huts have been gutted," Divisional Fire Officer Meenakshi Vijayakumar told PTI.
Asked the officials feared any casualty, she said, "Right now things are hazy and we are yet to get any information on that."
Nine fire tenders and six metro water lorries were pressed into service, fire officials said.
The fire was reported at 8.37 pm and the cause of the fire is not known, they said.
