Flash Mobs in Chennai for a Cleaner Marina Coast

A flash mob of 45 people at the Express Mall in Chennai.

Chennai: Members of the Chennai Trekking Club are performing flash mobs in the city to invite people's participation in a large-scale cleanup drive on the International Coastal Conservation Day falling on June 7.

On Sunday, a mix of men, women and children, a group of 45 people, made many heads turn at the Express Avenue Mall with their dance. They also performed a skit and distributed pamphlets to draw people's attention towards the cleanup programme which will cover Chennai's Marina Coast to Puducherry.

The members expressed their concern about the marine life which gets affected due to the spills of garbage around the coastline.

"Plastic bags are among the top two items of debris found most often in coastal cleanups. These bags quickly wrap around living organisms and suffocate them," said Sindu Bairavi Govindasami.

This is the sixth massive coast clean up activity planned by the group over the last six years and they would be performing flash mob dances at many other popular spots in Chennai to spread the word.
