Chennai:
Milk and travelling by bus will both cost a lot more now in Tamil Nadu.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has raised the price of milk from Rs 17.75 to Rs 24 a litre.
In Chennai, the cheapest bus journey will cost Rs 3 instead of Rs 2. The most expensive fare - earlier Rs 12 - will now cost Rs 14.
There could be worse to come. The electricity department will suggest new prices soon.
Blaming the DMK government which she replaced in May, the Chief Minister said, "The DMK regime has left several departments in huge debt, near bankruptcy."
She also faulted the union government for not providing the state financial assistance.
Referring to the fact that the Centre is working on a bailout package for Mamata Banerjee, who is an important partner in the UPA coalition, she said, "States run by non- allies of the UPA are ignored. West Bengal, which is run by an UPA ally, was given a Rs 21614-crore package."
