Man arrested with 15 kg gold worth Rs 5 crore at Chennai airport

Chennai: Fifteen kilogramme gold biscuits, worth Rs five crore in the international market was seized from a passenger who arrived in Chennai from Kolkata by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials.

DRI officials nabbed 32-year-old A Mundra after they searched his suitcase and found 15 kg of gold concealed inside.

Mundra, who arrived here on a Spicejet flight at 7 pm, is believed to have arrived in Kolkata from a foreign country before coming to Chennai, Airport officials said.

On October 7, 20 kg gold biscuits were seized from an Air India flight and five persons were arrested. The officials said surveillance has been enhanced owing to continuous instances of gold smuggling.
