Chennai:
About 100 unemployed persons from Thanjavur district have been reportedly cheated by a man who promised them jobs in Dubai after collecting money ranging from Rs one lakh to two lakh from them, police said.
This came to light after the airport officials here detained 40 passengers for possessing fake tickets and visas for travelling to Dubai by a private airline.
On being questioned, they told officials that the man had promised them jobs in Dubai and provided visas and travel tickets on payment of Rs one lakh to Rs two lakh each.
They said they had come to Chennai about a couple of days back with about 80 persons and that the others were staying in a private lodge near the airport.
Initially, the man asked 40 persons to travel to Dubai, they said.
Police said efforts are on to nab the culprit.
