Chennai: Customs officials detained a man at the Chennai airport today for allegedly trying to smuggle gold worth around Rs 35 lakh.
The man had arrived in Chennai from Doha and had concealed the gold under dates, which he was carrying in a bucket, airport officials said.
Custom officials finally found 1 kg of gold in his possession.
Airport officials also found undeclared USD 750 in a Colombo-bound passenger's handbag.
