Chennai:
Two young men in Chennai were arrested after they were caught on camera harassing a group of women spectators from the north-east last week during a football match in the city.
The video that went viral had captured the harassment at Chennai's Nehru Stadium when a match between Chennaiyin FC and North East United FC during the Indian Super League was on.
The clip shows the two young men dancing and making indecent gestures at the women who were sitting. One of the women and a male member of the group are seen urging the men to back off. The harassers, however, continue facing the women and dancing. One of the women finally pushes the man away after which he sits down.
Other people sitting close to the women are seen looking on or watching the match.
On Friday, NorthEast United FC owner and actor John, in a statement, called the incident "disturbing". He wrote: "We are looking into any such incidents and will take strong action against it".
John Abraham said he and Abhishek Bachchan, co-owner of the Chennaiyin FC team "would never condone this behaviour from our true fans". He said he will also meet one of the women who were harassed.
One of men arrested, S Tamilselvanan is involved in water can business and the other, Karthik Kumar, 20, an engineering student. They have been charged for harassment of the women.
