Over 28,000 Register For IIT Madras' Free Online Web Development Programme

IIT Madras Professor Gaurav Raina and Hasura's Tanmai Gopal are the faculty in charge of the programme.

Chennai: A free five-week app building online programme by IIT Madras is creating huge buzz. 28,000 people have already signed up for the course that would begin from September 5, Teacher's Day.

Offered jointly by IIT Madras and Hasura, a tech start-up company run by an alumnus of the institute, its open for anyone above 13.

Professor Gaurav Raina, the faculty in charge says, "We want to get lots of people excited about technology. We want to teach technology skills that are in demand which will enable them to solve local and global problems. It's a lab to land model. They can develop a hobby or take up a job".

Besides videos of lectures for the programme, their website www.imad.tech also provides access to resources for prerequisite learning for those with no or inadequate programming knowledge.

Hasura's Tanmai Gopal adds, "We are bridging the academic-industry gap. The professor would be theoretical and me practical. At the end of the programme one would be able to build their own app. They'd be able to work more effectively."

17 companies including MasterCard and Swiggy have agreed to consider taking interns from students who complete the programme.

Students can also get a course certificate from the institute by paying a fee of Rs 1000.
