Chennai:
Over 400 auto-rickshaw and school van drivers were on Tuesday given free insurance policies worth Rs 1 lakh.
The policies were given in appreciation of these drivers', who participated in road safety and first aid awareness campaign conducted by Apollo Hospitals in the city earlier.
Giving away the policies, Sanjay Arora, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said "most accident victims lose their lives because of inadequate attention or they were not taken to hospital on time.
Medical Superintendent of Apollo Hospitals said the auto drivers were selected for the training programme as "mostly, auto rickshaws reaches the accident spot faster than ambulances.
