Chennai: Five Sri Lankan nationals were detained at the Chennai airport for allegedly carrying 10 kg of gold jewellery, valued at about Rs 2 crore, without valid papers.
Airport sources said officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized the jewellery last night on a tip-off.
The jewellery were found when they searched the baggage of the five Lankan nationals, who arrived by a Spicejet flight from New Delhi.
The passengers - identified as Mohammed Sabhi, Neela Verma, Mohammed Ismail, Devendran and Mohammed Nizam - were being interrogated by the DRI officials, sources said today.
