Kolkata: One person was killed and at least eight others were injured when a trailer carrying wooden logs rammed into three taxis and a private car on the busy Vidyasagar Setu over the river Hooghly on Friday.
The trailer fell after hitting the vehicles and the victims were trapped under the logs which rolled down near the toll plaza of the bridge.
Police said one person died on the spot and at least eight others were injured, mostly by getting trapped under the wooden logs.
After the accident, locals rushed to the spot and put up roadblocks on the bridge alleging police inaction to avoid accidents in the area.
The Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were deployed after a section of the protesters tried to vandalise the toll plaza. Police used cranes to remove the capsized trailer as the victims were rushed to the state-run Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) Hospital.
