Raipur: Security forces on Monday foiled a major bid of Maoists to wreak havoc on them by recovering a 10-kg tiffin bomb hidden beneath the soil on a road near Dornapal in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
According to Sukma Superintendent of Police Abhishek Sandilya: "A joint team of district police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered a powerful tiffin bomb hidden beneath soil on Konta-Banda Road Monday evening. It was planted by Maoist insurgents to ambush security forces passing through this area."
According to Mr Sandilya, the joint team was on its way to conduct search and to facilitate ration supply to CRPF camp at Dornapal.
Near Murliguda they spotted some fuse wire on Konta-Banda Road. The search team immediately pressed bomb disposal squad into action which dug up the road and recovered a crude tiffin bomb of around 10 kg, enough to blow up any heavy vehicle. Fuse wire and detonators were also recovered from the site.
Notably, Sukma district, a part of Dantewada, is located on the southern tip of Chhattisgarh bordering Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra and is considered as a stronghold of Maoist insurgents where the rebels virtually run a parallel government.
The Maoists have heavily mined the 35 km stretch of road which connects Dornapal with its tehsil headquarters - Konta, a vital link for transporting ration to CRPF camp located in the area.
