Mumbai:
10 people, including two minors, have been killed after a three-storey building collapsed in the wee hours in Mumbra on the outskirts of Mumbai. 14 people have been rescued so far.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 am, civic sources said. The 35-year-old building was home to nine families.
Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are engaged in search and rescue operations. Teams from Mumbai and Thane fire brigade, along with the local police, are also aiding operations.
The residents of the building had reportedly been served an eviction notice by the civic authorities some time ago.
The incident comes two months after another building had collapsed in Mumbra, killing over 70 people. Seven storeys had come up in just six weeks, with sub-standard material used for the illegal structure.
