10-year-old suffered brain damage after thrashing by teacher, alleges family
Hassan: The parents of a 10-year-old girl in Karnataka say their daughter has suffered brain damage after she was thrashed by her teacher for not doing her homework.

The child, a student of class 3 in a Holenarsipura school near Mysore, was allegedly hit by the teacher and then pushed to the ground as punishment for not finishing an assignment. "Of all the children in the school, they gave extra homework to my child and threw her down. Her memory has been affected...we had to take her to NIMHANS...This is our only child...I want to save her," said the girl's father, Devaraj.

The incident happened last month. The teacher has been suspended, as have been the Block Education Officer and the Deputy Director Public Instruction (DDPI) of the area. "We have asked for details, and once the details come, I will send to the DDPI. They have shown the child to doctors in Bangalore," Yogesh, the Block Education Officer said.
