10kg drugs seized, woman arrested

Hyderabad: Acting on a tip-off, the Prohibition and Excise Department on Tuesday arrested a woman and seized 20 kg drugs worth Rs 10 lakh from her, officials said today.

A team of officials raided two houses in Huda colony in Asifnagar and Champapet here and seized Alprazolam drug. Assistant Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise (Enforcement) A V V Satyanarayan Murthy said.

B Punyavathi was arrested while her husband B Ramachandraiah and son Suresh Goud are absconding, he said.

"Alprazolam is a psychotropic substance and used as an adulterant. It is a sedative and causes drowsiness, hypertension, palpitation, loss of memory, nausea, muscular weakness and abnormal heart beats," Murthy said.

Special teams have been formed to nab the absconders and a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act
