Kochi:
An 11-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu, working as a maid in an advocate's house at Aluva, died due to alleged torture following which the police registered a case for murder and arrested the advocate and his and his wife.
There were several wounds on her body, including burns, which were two to three weeks old, Aluva SP T Vikram told PTI.
The wounds got infected and she developed pneumonia. She died on Thursday. A case under IPC section 302 (murder) has been registered against the advocate and his wife.
The postmortem conducted at the Alapuzha Medical College Hospital revealed that there were over 80 wounds on the girl's body.
The advocate Jose Kurien and wife Sindhu were picked up for questioning on Friday and later arrested after the postmortem report was received, Vikram said.
There were marks of cigarette burns and wounds inflicted by compass and beating.
