Thane:
A 13-year-old boy was killed after being kidnapped in Kalyan city of Thane district, police said today.
The parents of the victim had on April 17 lodged a complaint with Bazarpeth police of Kalyan about their son Rohan being kidnapped by some unknown persons from near his house. CCTV footage was submitted with the complaint.
Later, the boy's father Uttambhai Gucchali (39), a jeweller, received a call for a ransom of Rs. 50 lakh.
Dinesh Deshmukh, Rohan's neighbour, said, "Gucchali got a call that they wanted Rs 50,000 or Rs 50 lakh or something like that. I just have to say that if the police had done their duty properly and not taken everything so lightly, then the child could have been saved today."
But the police claimed they tried their best to save the child.
"A big team was involved (in the case) and was monitoring the whole thing. Kidnapping is a very sensitive case and our main aim was that the child should come back safely. Yesterday, the criminals were caught and from them we came to know that they had killed the child," said V V Lakshminarayan, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Thane.
A couple of days ago, police had recovered chopped off legs at a local flower market. The ossification test revealed that the body parts belonged to a male aged around 13.
Later, the boy's father identified the body parts as that of his son, police said.
Today morning, the body of the victim was found near the APMC market at Vashi, they said. The body was in a decomposed condition and its legs and hands had been chopped off.
Bazarpeth police, which is investigating the case, said four suspected killers of the boy had been identified and they have been arrested. Two other suspects are on the run.
