New Delhi:
A 17-year old girl allegedly committed suicide at her residence in south east Delhi in the wee hours, police said.
The incident took place in Block-6 of Dakshinpuri in Ambedkar Nagar police station area, they said.
The girl, who was a class 12th student in Central School in Pushp Vihar, allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her room while her family members were fast asleep, a police officer said.
Her family members, after they found her hanging, brought her down and rushed her to a hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The incident was brought to the notice of the police in the morning, the officer said.
"The reason why the girl committed suicide is yet to be ascertained. However, preliminary investigations revealed that she had not scored well in her exams," he said.
While the father of the deceased is not alive, her mother works as a domestic help in the locality, police said.
