Bulandshahr:
An 18-month-old girl was allegedly raped by a 30-year-old man in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh. The incident is the latest in a string of horrific rape cases that have been reported in the state in the last couple of days.
The incident occurred last night at a wedding. The parents of the child reportedly left her in the custody of the accused, who they apparently knew, for some time. When they returned, she had disappeared.
The girl was later found at a place close to the venue of the marriage.
She was rushed to the district hospital and was later shifted to a super-specialty hospital in Meerut. Her condition is said to be critical.
The accused, meanwhile, has been arrested and is being questioned.
The incident comes close on the heels of the alleged rape and murder of another minor in the state capital of Lucknow. Shockingly, cops had initially tried to hush up the matter by saying that she was attacked by stray dogs.
In another instance, the family of a rape survivor in Pratapgarh, who was recently attacked by the brother of the accused, has alleged that they are under pressure to withdraw the rape case.
No arrests have been made, so far, in these cases, putting the Uttar Pradesh police in the dock, over alleged negligence and inaction.
