Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh:
At least 18 students were injured, eight of them critically, when their school bus overturned Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district on Monday, police said.
The accident took place in Antu area with the bus of the Central Academy, a private school, carrying students of classes 1-6 to their homes.
"With the help of the locals, we managed to rescue the students and the driver, who were trapped inside the bus," Police Inspector Atul Kumar told reporters in Pratapgarh, some 150 km from Lucknow.
"All the injured, including the driver, are being treated at a hospital. The condition of eight students, who have suffered multiple injuries, is stated to be critical," he added.
According to police, the accident took place after the bus driver suddenly braked to avoid collision with a truck.
