Mumbai:
A youth working at a tea stall in Ghansoli was allegedly killed while a watchman at Sewage Treatment Plant of the NMMC was seriously injured by an unidentified person over a petty matter late night on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Kamlesh Bhagora, 19 while the watchman has been identified as Ramkumar Bholanath Gautam, 18.
According to police, Kamlesh, who works at Chamunda Tea House, near Panchavati Cooperative Housing Society, Sector 5, Ghansoli, had gone to dump garbage near the STP at around 10.30 pm on Monday.
While he was crossing the road, a motorcycle rider passing by hurled abuses at Kamlesh and picked up a quarrel with him. After initial arguments, the biker took out a sharp weapon and assaulted Kamlesh. The assailant inflicted over 30 stabs over Kamlesh's body. Terrified by the assault, Kamlesh started calling for help.
According to an eye-witness, a 10-year-old boy who was playing there, the killer was on a black motorcycle. The youth in his late twenties sported long hair and he kicked Kamlesh before slitting his throat.
Surprisingly, despite several people present there no one came to his help except Ramkumar Gautam, the watchman at the STP. Ironically, the spot where the incident took place is barely a few meters from the Ghansoli police outpost under the Koparkhairane Police Station. But no personnel got the wind of the incident.
Ramkumar too sustained serious injuries while trying to save Kamlesh. When his resistance faded, the killer slit Kamlesh's throat with the weapon killing him on the spot and fled the spot on the motorcycle.
Ramkumar somehow managed to inform the Koparkhairane Police about the incident. A team from the police station which reached the spot after being informed, rushed Ramkumar to NMMC hospital at Vashi for treatment.
An offence has been registered against unidentified person in this regard under sections 302 and 324 of the IPC.
