Barasat, West Bengal:
The semi-clothed body of a 20-year-old girl was found at a construction site Friday night on the outskirts of Kolkata. Police suspect that the girl was gang-raped and then strangled.
The second-year college student, was apparently last seen around 2.30 pm on Friday near a college at Lake Town, where she had gone to take an exam. The girl's parents reported her missing at around 7 pm. A few hours later, her body was spotted in Aminpur near the Barasat Police Station area, bordering north-east Kolkata.
Police said three out of the four people named in the FIR, have been arrested. Two other suspects have also been apprehended. It is yet to be ascertained whether the accused were known to the girl or her family.
The incident sparked outrage with locals attacking police vehicles, protesting frequent assaults on women in Barasat area. Police had to deploy Rapid Action Force to control the situation.
