Varanasi:
A 20-year-old woman, who was allegedly set on fire by three men of her locality in Varanasi on December 18, succumbed to her injuries at the district hospital on Friday. She had sustained 70 burn injuries.
Describing their ordeal, in their complaint to the police, the parents had alleged that she was being repeatedly harassed by the three men who threw kerosene on her and set her on fire.
The men lived in the same locality, and they were known to the victim. Sources say the families of the victim and the accused were known to be enemies.
The girl's inconsolable parents also blame the police for not taking action against the perpetrators on their complaints before the incident. "The police never took our complaints seriously," they said.
The police in their defence say all three accused were arrested soon after the First Information Report or FIR was filed.
