Kolkata:
After Mumbai, it's now nightmare time for Kolkata. Not a good day for commuters in the city today as most taxis will be off the roads.
The Bengal Taxi Association, that controls nearly 20,000 out of the 34,000 taxis that run in Kolkata, has called for a 24-hour strike.
The association, which is demanding a hike of Rs 6 over the existing fares to counter the rise in diesel prices, met the transport minister on Wednesday. The minister asked for some more time.
The association had said it wants a decision by July 30, but has still called for a strike to protest the delay in the decision.
