New Delhi: In the latest list of 30 Smart Cities announced by the government, three cities each from Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat have found a spot.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was quick to thank Union Minister M Venkiah Naidu, who announced the names of the cities in the capital today. Allahabad, Jhansi and Aligarh from the state were named in the list.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's Office tweeted:
Three of the new smart cities are from Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state. State capital Gandhinagar, Rajkot and Dahod are named in the list.
Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, Patna and the de facto capital of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati are among the other cities selected. Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla has also been named.
Union Minister M Venkiah Naidu, who announced the names in the capital, said 45 cities contested for the 40 available smart city slots but only 30 were selected to ensure their feasibility and workable plans.
These cities proposed to invest over 57 crores under the Centre's Smart City plan, Mr Naidu said.
The Smart City Mission was launched in 2015 with the aim of transforming 100 Indian cities by 2019-20. The Centre provides Rs 500 crore to each city over a period of 5 years for implementing various projects.
