Eight compartments of Muri Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh.
Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh: Two persons died and six were injured eight compartments of the Howrah-Jammu Muri Express derailed in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh today.
The accident took place around 2 pm near Sirathu railway station, which is close to Allahabad.
Initial reports say the train was not running at full speed, which was why only one of the coaches had been severely damaged.
"The National Disaster Relief Force has been called in and medical and relief teams have been sent to the accident site," said a railways spokesperson. "Details are still coming in."
The accident affected rail traffic on the Delhi-Mughlasarai route, with 13 trains being cancelled.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh for the families of the deceased and has asked officials to see that all help possible be extended.
