New Delhi:
Forty-three more people tested positive for H1N1 virus today including four medicos, taking the total number of cases reported in the national capital to 361, including five persons who died, so far this season.
"Samples of 204 patients were tested out of which 43 tested positive for H1N1 virus," said Dr S K Sharma, director of health services, Delhi government.
Those infected include three doctors and an intern working at Lok Nayak Hospital, all of whom are stable and have been put on Tamiflu, said Mr Sharma who stressed that doctors should also follow the guidelines to avoid getting infected.
Delhi government today held a review meeting on the status of swine flu along with a five-member committee constituted in this regard.
"We reviewed the cases of swine flu in Delhi and were of the conclusion that the situation is under control as there has been no more deaths. And even those who died, two of them suffered from severe co-morbid conditions," Mr Sharma said.
As for the upsurge in cases, Mr Sharma said that swine flu is a seasonal flu and will wane away with temperatures rising.
"There is nothing to panic. We have enough stocks of medicines. The reason behind the upsurge in swine flu cases is also because of better awareness due to which more and more people are getting themselves tested and also because of better equipped labs," he said.
"Swine flu is a self-limiting disease and medicines are given to break the chain so that the infected person cannot spread the virus in the community," he said.
H1N1 virus influenza was at its most virulent form when it initially spread in 2009. Till May 2010, 1,035 people had died of the disease in India.
