New Delhi:
Five persons have been sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by a court in Delhi for killing the wife of a retired Army Colonel during a robbery at the couple's house in posh south Delhi area.
"There does not seem to be any reason for misplaced sympathy with these convicts who were armed and barged into the house of an elderly couple with an aim to commit robbery," Additional Sessions Judge S K Sarvaria said.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 each on convicts Mohd Shamim, Sonu, Kanhaiya, Pradeep and Kanhaiya, after finding them guilty under the IPC for offence of armed robbery with attempt to cause death.
Besides the five convicts, the court also held Manish Soni and Dharam Pal, the goldsmiths, guilty of receiving robbed jewelleries from other co-convicts.
Besides imposing a fine of Rs 5,000, the court sentenced the duo to nearly one month's jail, a period undergone during the trial.
Kanhaiya, an accused who had worked as carpenter at the New Friends Colony house of complainant S P Narula, a retired army official, plotted with others to commit robbery. He was aware that Narula had received Rs 8 lakh as advance for selling his house at the price of Rs one crore.
On the evening of December 13, the five accused forcibly entered the house and gave blows with a knife to S Narula, wife of former army officer, and their servant.
