Police take away the accused scrap iron merchant
The Madurai Police today arrested a 50-year-old man under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl.
According to the police, the 15-year-old girl and her mother worked at the shop of the accused, a scrap iron merchant.
The girl's family had filed a complaint yesterday saying the accused had lured her with money and shown her an obscene video, before assaulting her inside his shop on September 2.
Police sources said a group of people threatened the family with dire consequences if they revealed the matter to anyone and even offered them money to stay quiet.
The girl is in hospital for medical examination and undergoing counselling, a police officer said. "Further investigations are on," he added.
