Rajahmundry, AP: A 58-year-old man was arrested for marrying a minor girl in Rajahmundry on Thursday, police said.
The accused S Balgangadhar Tilk, who has three children from his former marriage, was arrested along with village revenue officer Durga Rao, who issued a fake date of birth certificate showing the girl's age as 20, they said.
The people who attended the marriage function performed at Arayapuram Sri Satyanarayana Swamy temple here grew suspicious about girl's age and informed police, they said.
The police after thorough investigation found girl's birth certificate, produced by girl's relatives, as fake and arrested Tilk and Rao, they said.
The father and some relatives of the bride had forced her to marry the old man due to some financial problems after which she agreed, police said.
