65-year-old woman found murdered in Thane

Thane: An elderly woman was found murdered at her residence in Thane today, police said.

65-year-old Vasanti Shekar Roy was alone at home in Nalla Sopara area at the time of the incident on Friday. Her son and daughter-in-law, who stayed with her, had gone to office, Inspector Mukund Mahajan of Nalla Sopara Police Station said.

According to police, unknown persons entered her flat between 3 pm and 8.30 pm and attacked her with sharp weapons. Ms Roy's son found his mother lying in a pool of blood when he returned from work and reported the matter to the police.

The motive was not yet clear as preliminary probe suggests that nothing was stolen from the house, police said.
