A Merc for Rs 2.40 cr at Mumbai's car show
Mumbai: The line-up of swank cars is on display at the four-day-long Kotak Autocar Performance Show 2010' which begins today at Bandra-Kurla Complex.

A Mercedes SLS AMG, which is on display at the car show, is priced at over Rs 2.40 crore.

The Mitsubishi EVO X boasts of a performance-oriented car with powerful engines and is priced over Rs 50 lakh.

Entering Mumbai's luxury market are the Ghost, the Rolls Royce, Mercedes SLS AMG and Lamborghini Gallardo. Each is priced at over Rs 2.50 crore.

From Volvo to Lamborghini, Jaguar, Land Rover, GM, Hyundai, Toyota, the show will host India's very own Dilip Chhabria-designed high-end car with a design concept called Imperator.
Besides, super bikes will be launched at the show and the prices will be over Rs 10 lakh.

"The show will witness the launch of three new vehicles the Volvo XC60, the latest SUV from the Volvo stables, the Volvo S60 and Skoda Yeti," said an organiser.

"The high-end car segment is one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian market. This motor show aims to focus on high-end kind of cars," said Editor of AutoCar India, Hormazd Sorabjee.

Can such high-end cars drive on the city's potholed roads? "Ideally, no car is designed for Mumbai's roads which are probably the worst and getting worse," he said.

"Such shows and expos used to happen in Delhi and its outskirts. Mumbai and its regions were neglected,"  said Dilip Chabria. "It is a welcome move that the show is happening in the city with the launch of new series of cars."

Nitin Dossa, executive chairman of Western India Automobile Association, said, "It should be a good show and it is worth watching it. India is a big market and I think most of the young industrialists are enthusiastic about high-end cars and they will go for it."
