Bangalore: What is Foursquare? Foursquare is a mobile application that makes cities easier to use and more interesting to explore. It is a friend-finder, a social city guide and a game that challenges users to experience new things, and rewards them for doing so. Foursquare lets users "check in" to a place when they're there, tell friends where they are and track the history of where they've been and who they've been there with.
Who created it? Foursquare, already tipped to be the next Twitter, was created in 2009 by Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai. Crowley had previously founded the similar project Dodgeball, which Google bought in 2005 and shut down in 2009. On September 1, 2010, the World Economic Forum announced the company as a Technology Pioneer for 2011. As of August 2010, foursquare had close to 3 million users worldwide.
What is its USP? Foursquare can drive local business by directing people to specific restaurants, events and shopping zones.
