Kochi:
Twenty one years after the murder of a police informer, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested one of the accused in Chennai, agency sources said.
The accused, AC Abdullah was arrested yesterday and is being brought here for further questioning, CBI sources said.
Hamsa, a police informer, was shot dead on April 29, 1989, at Poinachi on the National Highway.
The CBI has claimed that rivalry between two gangs engaged in smuggling led to Hamsa's murder. He had tipped off the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) about smuggling of gold biscuits by a rival gang, following which the DRI seized the biscuits worth Rs three crore.
Local police and Crime Branch had investigated the case after which CBI was entrusted with it.
CBI had filed charge sheets against 19 accused, of whom four are still absconding.
