Varanasi:
A Russian woman was attacked with acid by her landlord's son at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
Darya Yurieva, 23, who is from Moscow, had been in India for about four months.
The police say the man threw a bottle of acid on the woman after an argument. The two, the police said, had recently travelled together to Ladakh and were believed to be involved.
The woman was taken to hospital by her landlord.
In September, an American tourist had accused two men of raping her in the popular hill station of Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh.
In February, a Japanese woman accused a tour guide of drugging and raping her in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
There were more than 300 acid attacks last year, according to a newspaper report in April based on provisional data from India's National Crime Records Bureau.
The Supreme Court has repeatedly warned state authorities to enforce restrictions on the sale of acid, but campaigners say it remains easy to purchase and inexpensive.
