Actor alleges phone threats, says producer stalking her

Actor alleges phone threats, says producer stalking her
Mumbai: An aspiring actor in Mumbai has lodged a police complaint claiming that an anonymous stalker has been threatening her over the phone.

22-year-old Rituu Sachdev, who has done lead roles in South Indian films, including the recently released Kannada film Sri Moksha, had also been threatened earlier by a film producer from Hyderabad.

The calls, which according to Sachdev were vulgar and intimidating, had been made from local phone numbers across the city.

Sachdev said, "The callers have been threatening that they will make me suffer. This has started since I stopped taking calls from a producer who was making passes at me. The calls were made from different phone numbers and the police are trying to track them down."

She also claimed that the anonymous callers were connected to the Hyderabadi film producer.

According to Sachdev's publicist, Ashwin Salian, the producer's agent met her during an audition in Mumbai. She was subsequently introduced to the producer who agreed to sign her for two of his films.

However, after running a background check, Sachdev discovered that the producer's claims were dubious. Thereafter, she refused to work with him and turned down the film offers.

"The producer began calling and sweet-talking her. But when she did not show interest, he began bombarding her with calls from different numbers. She finally stopped taking his calls and that was when he threatened her with dire consequences if she did not agree to his demands and work with him," Salian added.

Sub-inspector Yogesh Ghorpode told MiD DAY, "The actress did not file a complaint earlier but after the increasing number of calls in the past few days, she decided to file a complaint."

Sachdev, who hails from Delhi, discarded her fledging career as an air stewardess to chase her Bollywood dream. Sachdev has already featured in four South Indian films and has also appeared in several commercials.
