Guwahati:
Normal life was affected here for the second consecutive day today with public transport keeping off the roads in response to a 24-hour 'Chakka Bandh' called by the All Assam Motor Transport Association to protest the delay by authorities in settling the bus fare hike issue.
The countrywide trade unions' strike against price rise yesterday left markets and business establishments closed and public transport off the roads.
Commercial private vehicles, including city and long distance buses, did not ply from 6 am this morning in the city inconveniencing commuters, students and office-goers, official sources said.
Though some government run buses plied, they could not cater to the huge crowd waiting at the bus stops.
The movement of trekker taxi service and auto-rickshaws was also less compounding the problem for the commuters, the sources said.
