New Delhi: A student of a private school in East Delhi jumped off the second floor of the school building after he was allegedly slapped and scolded by his teacher.
Twelve-year-old Sahil, a student of Class 6, skipped his class to attend a music class instead.
After his teacher beat him, he jumped from the second floor and fractured both his legs and received head injuries.
Commenting on the incident, Sahil's mother Sangeeta Sachdeva said, "He was called by his music teacher as a result of which he was late for his first period, that's why his class teacher scolded him and slapped him."
Police say it seems after the teacher slapped, the boy sat through two periods and then climbed up to the second floor and jumped.
The police are now trying to find out if anything else happened in the two periods to aggravate things.
A case has been registered, but the teacher is yet to be questioned.
"Teacher should have considered the fact that he is a small child," said l N Khanna, Sahil's grandfather.
This case comes at a time when various agencies are still investigating the death of Rauvan Rawla in Kolkata. This incident in Delhi is bound to bring into focus the issue of corporal punishment in schools.
