Ahmedabad: Clashes in Shahpur kill 1, CM sets up Special Cell

Ahmedabad: In a bid to control the incidents of communal violence which have claimed one life in the Old city area in Ahmedabad, Gujarat government on Wednesday set up a special control room and rushed the State Reserve Police (SRP) in the area.    

"The Chief Minister has instructed to set up a special control room where State revenue minister Anandiben Patel and education minister Ramanlal Vora will monitor the situation," an official from the Chief Minister's office said.   

According to the official, the State home department has directed Ahmedabad Police Commissioner to strictly deal with those found to be indulging in the violent incidents in Shahpur area.    

SRP men have been deployed in Shahpur area, which has witnessed communal clashes since Monday.    

Meanwhile, one person who was injured in Tuesday's violence succumbed in the civil hospital today, police said. The deceased Vijay Datania had sustained injuries in the head during stone pelting by the two groups in Nagoriwadlane of Shahpur area, police said, adding, a few others were also injured during the clashes.
