Ahmedabad-Delhi flyers of Air India forced to face delay

Ahmedabad: There is no end to the woes of passengers traveling on Air India's Ahmedabad-Delhi or Delhi-Ahmedabad flight as the flights continue to operate several hours after schedule. Airline officials blame operational issues for the delayed operations.

The flights were launched by the national carrier on October 31. However, in more than two weeks, the flights have inevitably been delayed, on most occasions by several hours. Even on Wednesday, the flights were hours behind schedule.

While passengers are having a harrowing time due to the flight schedules going awry, airline officials attribute the delays to the operational issues at the newly inaugurated Terminal 3 (T3) in New Delhi.

"The whole setup is new at T 3, which is the key reason why the flights are getting delayed. Staff shortage is also contributing to the delays. But, all corrective measures have been implemented to sort out the problems," an Air India official said, requesting anonymity.

Airport officials said that there are bound to be a few issues when a new terminal has been put into use. "Other airlines have also faced similar issues in the past when new terminals, especially at busy airports, have been put to use," said an official.

An AI official said that some staff from various centres, including Ahmedabad, had been deputed to Delhi in the wake of the crisis.
