Ahmedabad:
The health department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation seized 1 kg of steroids and has lodged a complaint against two for illegal sale of medicine. The corporation also sealed two shops engaged in the practice of illegal sale of steroids.
Following a complaint, the health department had raided two stores located in Prem Darwaja area on Tuesday. Two people Kishan Harwal and Arif Sheikh were found selling steroids. They duped people by claiming that the steroids were medicine to cure arthritis.
The two did not have a licence to sell the drugs, nor where they qualified to be pharmacists. The health department seized around 1 kg of steroids from the two.
The department also sealed Good Luck Pan Centre and Super Auto owned by Harwal and Sheikh respectively. "Both the accused used to sell the white powder in small packs charging Rs5 for each pack," said AMC officials.
A police complaint has been registered in this connection and the samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing. Sources, meanwhile, claimed that the health department officials were 'pressurised' not to make the incident public or file a complaint in this connection.
