Ajmer jeweller's clerk beaten, Rs 41 lakh robbed

Ajmer: A clerk working with a reputed bullion trader of Ajmer was allegedly looted by three armed assailants from Patel Nagar area in the city while he was in town to buy gold. The assailants thrashed the trader and later decamped with Rs 41 lakh from his possession.

Divulging the details of the case, Raguveer Saini, circle officer, Sodala, told DNA on Monday, "The victim, identified as Lalit Garg, 30, works for a bullion trader Praveen Kandoi. Garg reached Sodala Circle, from Ajmer at about 8.30 am. He was carrying Rs 41 lakh in a cotton bag. From Sodala Circle, Garg took a bus to 22 Godam Circle from where he was walking towards the house of one Ramgopal Soni."

"While he was walking towards the residence of Soni, situated near Patel Nagar, three unidentified youth stopped him and tried to snatch his bag containing the money. When he resisted, they beat him up and threatened him with a sharp-edged weapon. The trio snatched the bag and then fled from the scene," Saini added.

The victim was rushed to the nearby Sodala police station and based on his description of the assailants the police released sketches of the trio. "Prima facie it appears that either the man with whom he had planned to buy gold could be behind this assault. We are also not ruling out the involvement of Soni's co-workers," Saini added.

Police added that the assailants would be arrested soon. "We have rounded up at least a dozen of people and are interrogating them," a senior police officer said.
