Akola: Four policemen were injured, one critically, when a police van in the convoy of NCP chief Sharad Pawar overturned while proceeding from Akola to Buldhana district, police said on Saturday.
According to police, at around 4.30 pm the van ran over a big stone on the Balapur-Shegaon road in Akola district after which the driver lost control over the vehicle.
"Subsequently, the van turned turtle. Four policemen were injured in the incident. One of them sustained serious head injury. Preliminary probe suggests that the accident took place as the driver lost control due to speed," K P Raut, Senior Inspector at Balapur Police Station said.
"It was the last vehicle in the convoy. Other vehicles with Union Agriculture Minister were not stopped after the mishap. The convoy left to Buldhana where the politician is scheduled to attend a programme," the official said.
The policemen were rushed to nearby hospital and further probe was on.
