Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University has announced fresh dates for holding Student Union elections amid protests by students demanding that the polls be conduced as scheduled on September 26.
As per a notification, the polling will be held on October 8. The last date for filing nominations is September 29.
The election was earlier scheduled on September 26, but the university cancelled it, citing violation of norms and regulations by candidates.
A group of students, including the candidates contesting the polls, have staged a sit-in outside the Vice Chancellor's residence demanding that the polls be held as scheduled.
A spokesman for the protesting students said they "may" accept the new polling date but are not happy with the university asking the candidates to file fresh nominations.
