Etawah: The caste divide of Uttar Pradesh has claimed the life of a Dalit man and his son. Tulsi Ram and his son Sudhir Kumar were allegedly bludgeoned to death in Etawah district by family members of a girl belonging to the upper caste who Sudhir was in love with.
The duo was working on the field when the family members attacked them. Eyewitnesses say the men first knocked Tulsi Ram down. When Sudhir rushed to his father's rescue, he was also badly beaten.
But the men did not stop there. They crushed the duo under a tractor; Sudhir was run over by the tractor several times, the eyewitnesses said.
Tulsi Ram died on the spot while his son succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Saifai.
A case of murder has been registered but the accused are on the run.
The incident in the home district of Mulayam Singh has raised questions on the situation of law and order of the state. However, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has said that action will be taken against the accused.
"Law and order will be maintained and the probe will be ordered against the officer who is found guilty," said Mr Yadav.
The family members of the girl had threatened the father-son duo a day earlier. The girl had got married five months ago.
